Jersey Intel corrects errors promptly and transparently. When we get something wrong, we fix it on the story itself and tell readers what changed. We do not quietly change published facts.
How we correct
- Corrections: when a story contains an error of fact (a name, number, date, title, quote or the meaning of a document), we fix it and add a dated Correction note to the story saying what was wrong and what is right.
- Updates: when new information arrives (a response to our questions, new records, a vote, a court ruling), we add it and mark the story with a dated Update note.
- Clarifications: when a story was accurate but could be misread or lacked important context, we add a dated clarification note.
- Social posts: if an error appeared in a post on X, we post the correction as a reply to the original post.
- We do not delete stories to hide mistakes. A story is removed only for serious legal or safety reasons, and we say so when we do.
Criminal charges and court cases
Criminal charges are accusations, not convictions. Everyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. When a case we reported on is resolved, whether by dismissal, acquittal, plea or conviction, we update the story with the outcome and the date.
How to report an error
Email jerseyintel@gmail.com with the link to the story, what you believe is wrong, and any document that shows it. We review every report, check it against the primary records, and respond in writing.
